Set up

  • Mark 175 yards from the hole. Every ball from the mark.
  • The club you would take from here on the course.
  • Measure each ball from the hole; do not judge it.
  • Record each ball's biggest miss: short, long, left or right.

How to play

  • Hit twenty from the mark.
  • Measure and record each before the next.
  • Record a miss direction for every ball, good ones too.

Details

  • If 175 yards is beyond your carry, note it: the card then measures reach, not proximity, and the miss tally is the useful readout.
  • A rangefinder is easiest; a consistent pace will do.

If you are using a launch monitor or radar

  • A monitor cannot score this game. Proximity is measured from the hole once the ball has stopped. Use it to set the 175-yard mark, then measure on the ground.
  • Set the mark by carry and check each shot flew about 175 yards.
  • Do not take the yardage from a club-distance chart — those are total distance, not carry.
  • Indoors, with no measurable resting place, this is the wrong test to run.

Retesting

  • Warm up first — ten to fifteen balls with the club you will use. Same set-up, same ball, same conditions every retest. One run is a snapshot; two or three averaged is a standard.

Benchmark

  • 175 yards is the midpoint of the reference data's 150-to-200-yard band, so the figure is confirmed. Expect a low score above 15 handicap — the data puts a 25 handicap at 168 feet from here, and that is honest, not a fault of the card. The benchmark assumes you can carry the distance; if you cannot, read the miss tally rather than the score.

Equipment

  • Your longest club into a green · 20 balls · a measured 175-yard mark · rangefinder or a consistent pace. No specialist technology is required.
