Set up
- Mark 50 and 90 yards from the hole.
- Ten balls from each mark, the clubs you would use.
- Rings: 10, 25, 40 ft at 50; 20, 45, 75 at 90.
- Measure each ball from the hole; do not judge it.
How to play
- Ten from each mark, recording under the right distance.
- Record each first shot's leave: short, pin-high or past.
- Score every ball, including the bad ones.

Details
- The rings are 8%, 16% and 28% of each distance — the first figure is for 50 yards, the second for 90.
- A rangefinder is easiest; a consistent pace will do.
If you are using a launch monitor or radar
- A monitor cannot score this game. Proximity is measured from the hole once the ball has stopped. Use it to set the two marks by carry.
- Do not take the yardages from a club-distance chart — those are total distance, not carry.
- Indoors, with no measurable resting place, this is the wrong test to run.
Retesting
- Warm up first — ten to fifteen balls with the club you will use. Same set-up, same ball, same conditions every retest. One run is a snapshot; two or three averaged is a standard.
Benchmark
- The benchmark is proximity from 50 to 100 yards, confirmed in the reference data. It is a band average, and this card averages a 50 and a 90 — the middle of that band — so the row applies as it stands. Each distance also shows its own first-ring rate.
Equipment
- Wedges · 20 balls · marks at 50 and 90 yards · rangefinder or a consistent pace. No specialist technology is required.
