Set up
- Find a straight ten-foot putt. Mark the ball position.
- Two tees one foot ahead, either side of the line.
- Gate width: one ball plus a finger. Keep it constant.
- Same ball, same putter throughout.
How to play
- Ten putts from the mark.
- Record each: through and holed, through and missed, or hit the gate.
- Touching a tee counts as missing the gate.

Details
- Keep the gate the same width every time you play this — the score depends on it.
If you are using a launch monitor or radar
- A putting monitor reports start line directly. If yours does, a putt inside about one degree of the line is through the gate; record it the same way.
Retesting
- Warm up first — ten to fifteen balls with the club you will use. Same set-up, same ball, same conditions every retest. One run is a snapshot; two or three averaged is a standard.
Benchmark
- There is no benchmark on this card and there cannot be: the score depends on the gate width. Do not read the score as a standard. It is not one. The card gives two rates, read together — through the gate, and holed.
Equipment
- Putter · a ball · two tees · a straight ten-foot putt. No specialist technology is required.
Scoring
- 10 Through, holed
- 6 Through, missed
- 0 Hit the gate
